Spooktacular Halloween Party Brings Neighbours Together Through Fun, Culture, and Connection

On October 16, 2026, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) successfully hosted the Spooktacular Halloween Party, a Neighbourhood Small Grant event that welcomed approximately 37 community members for an afternoon of fun, creativity, and meaningful connection.

The event was made possible through the dedication of seven volunteers from the Multicultural Women Peer Mentoring Group, including newcomer women and a long-term resident who received the Neighbourhood Small Grant. Volunteers played an active role in every stage of the project, from applying for the grant and planning activities to preparing for and facilitating the event.

By bringing together newcomers and long-term residents, the event fostered collaboration, community engagement, and mutual learning. Participants shared their skills, ideas, and experiences while helping to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone felt encouraged to participate.

The celebration began with a land acknowledgement and a traditional drumming performance honoring mothers and families in attendance, setting a meaningful tone for the day and highlighting the importance of cultural respect and community belonging.
