In the initial days of the COVID-19 pandemic, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House and Marpole Neighbourhood House closed their buildings and established the Temporary Emergency Food Distribution program to provide weekly emergency food access to approximately 300 vulnerable residents in South Vancouver and 150 residents in Marpole.  After this program closed in August 2020, SVNH began working with United Way of BC to develop a new Food Hub model that would support residents with long-term dignified food access.

In November 2020, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House launched the South Vancouver Community Food Hub with the Langara YMCA as its centre of operations. We currently work with our partners to provide weekly emergency grocery boxes to 320 households representing 1,000 individuals in the South Vancouver neighbourhoods of Sunset, Victoria-Fraserview and Killarney. From Monday to Friday, we are busy sorting, packaging, receiving and transporting healthy, culturally appropriate food across 6 locations. Our program allows community members to access food closer to home, so people can spend more time with their loved ones and work on getting back on their own two feet.

We support individuals and families living in the South Vancouver catchment area (Main to Boundary, 41st to Fraser River) who need food support. Our program is currently full, with a waitlist. To reach us, please call 604-324-6212.

If you would like to support this program, please consider making an online donation. Follow the instructions and write 'Food Hub' in the message section so we know which program to direct the funds to.
